Adding Spice To Your Day: THE LIP OF TRUTH

Text: “The lip of truth shall be established ever but a lying tongue is but for a moment.”Proverbs 12:19

What an awesome word we have today. The lip of truth shall be established forever. Learning to always say the truth puts the foundation of a man’s life on a solid and lasting ground. Telling lies may give an immediate gratification but it’s temporary in nature and does not establish an enviable future that God desires for us.

Telling lies puts a man against God because the devil is the chief architect and source of all lies. Lying identifies a man with the devil’s nature. The devil lied from the beginning and fathers the whole concept. (John 8:44).

There are two (2) basic reasons for lies:
1. To safe our face - covering up issues.
2. To impress other people – Giving a false sense of importance.
At the root of these is the enthronement of ‘self’ in a life. Not allowing God to have his way.

All over scriptures there are emphases on the need to speak the truth. Psalms 51:6 tells us that God desires truth in the inward part; that is where it starts from. Psalms 15:2 tells us that people that will perpetually enjoy God’s presence are those who have learned to speak truth in their heart.

The destructive nature of lies is that it does not stop at one; it produces a chain reaction that produces other lies to cover up for the previous one. The best policy is to say the truth the first time. Yielding to the temptation of lies has devastating effects on a man. It will lead to a major loss of integrity; people who are connected to you will find it difficult to trust you. Trust is the foundation of every relationship. A lie causes a major damage to our character.  Lies pollute a clear conscience. Ephesians 4:25 says “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour...” Lies may prevail for a while but eventually the truth will catch up with it.

PRAYER:
In name of Jesus I declare that my heart and mouth is filled with the truth. I receive courage to say the truth.
