Text: “He that hath no
rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without
walls.” Proverbs 25:28
In the ancient times the major form of protections in cities are
fortified walls. Wars were quite rampant in those days. One Kingdom is always
fighting against another kingdom, which made the walls absolutely necessary.
Once the walls are broken down, it becomes so easy for the intruding enemy to
gain easy access.
The walls are for the following reasons:
1. To protect the territorial boundaries of the city.
2. To protect the intruders from gaining entrance.
A City with a broken down walls is open, vulnerable and exposed to
everything that can go wrong. This is the exact description of a life that has
no rule over his spirit. The word ‘rule’ here means self-control.
Lack of self-control could be expressed in various forms: This
could express itself in lack of self-control over the use of our time. Time is
precious; if we lose control over time we’ve lost control over life itself.
Time management is life management. We don’t have all the time in the world to
do everything. We only have enough time to do what is relevant and productive
for us. But when we fail to do this we’ll end up spending our God given
precious time on irrelevant and unproductive ventures.
Lack of self-control could also be expressed in lack of control
over our appetite, sleep, sexual drive and the rest. Whichever one it is, such
a life is open, exposed and vulnerable to every wrong intruders.
Self-control is an internal work of the Holy Spirit within us as
we yield ourselves to his dealings and promptings within us. This will protect
your life.
CONFESSION:
There is control over my spirit. I am internally controlled by the
Holy Spirit. Intruders are helpless. I have control over my time, my appetite
and my sexual drive.
